FAQ & troubleshooting

Quick answers to common questions, plus fixes for the issues people hit most often.

Credits & rendering

My sidebar shows free-trial time, but a render says “you have 0 credits.”

The meter and the render check can disagree if your trial grant has not posted to your credit ledger yet. Open Billing & plans and check Credit history: if it reads “No credit activity yet,” the grant has not landed. Reload the studio after a moment; if it persists, contact support so the trial credits can be granted.

How much does a chapter cost?

About one credit-minute per ~140 words, rounded up to the whole minute. The exact charge is settled to the real audio length after the render. Previews are free and re-renders only charge for the audio regenerated.

Did a failed line cost me credits?

No. Lines that fail to render are not charged.

Casting & voices

Two characters got the same voice.

The Cast step flags duplicate voices with a warning. Open each character’s dropdown and pick distinct voices, then re-render the affected lines.

A name is mispronounced.

Add it to Pronunciations with a sound-alike respelling and re-render the lines.

Playback & performance

A page feels frozen or won’t scroll smoothly.

The animation-rich marketing pages can briefly stutter on some machines. If a page becomes unresponsive, reload it. The studio and app pages are lighter and should stay responsive.

Playback shows no audio.

Make sure the line has finished rendering (it will show a duration and a green check). Use the transport bar’s now-playing label to confirm which line is active.

Exporting

Will my file pass ACX checks?

Use the ACX-style preset and check the readiness report after export. When peak, RMS, head/tail silence, and format all show green, the file meets the measured spec — though the retailer makes the final decision.

Which format should I choose?

Choose M4B for Apple Books and Audible (chaptered with markers) and MP3 for Findaway or podcast distribution.
