The hinges had not turned in forty years. Mara pressed her ear to the cold wood and heard the house breathing on the other side — long, slow, patient.

Hear the difference

The same passage, read two ways. One flat, one directed.

Ordinary AI narration reads the words. Book Director Studio lets you direct the performance. Play both and listen for what changes.

What to listen for

  • Narrator voice
  • Character distinction
  • Emotional delivery
  • Dialogue timing
  • Pauses between lines
  • Scene breaks
Not just narration

A standard audiobook is one voice. This is a cast you direct.

One narrator reading every line can be beautiful, but it can also make dialogue-heavy books feel flat. Cast voices for your characters, tune emotion and pacing, fix pronunciations, preview lines, and regenerate only the moments that need another take. The result is still an audiobook. The process feels closer to directing a performance.

The hard problem

Silence, fixed.

Every generated line is auto-trimmed of the dead air AI voices add. Then we sandwich a precise pause between lines — 0.5s between beats, 2.0s on a scene break, anywhere your script asks for it. The result feels recorded, not generated.

Thirty narrators, ready to cast

Oliver, Mia, Elijah, Amelia — a literary cast of warm, dry, intimate, theatrical, and grizzled. Audition any voice in your own manuscript before you commit.

Direct every line

Adjust pacing, emotion, breath, and accent per-line. The TTS model receives your performance notes verbatim.

Multi-speaker scenes

Linked dialogue renders as a single conversation pass, so two characters trade lines with the real rhythm of people talking. Up to two distinct voices per scene.

Audiobook-ready exports

Mastered MP3 or M4B with chapter markers, plus an ACX-style readiness report on loudness and noise floor. You keep commercial rights. Each retailer sets its own acceptance rules.

The studio · in five acts

From first page to final master, without leaving your desk.

  1. Import your manuscript

Paste a chapter or upload a Word doc, EPUB, PDF, or text file. The studio organizes your text so you can work chapter by chapter.

  2. AI scripts and casts

A literary model reads your text, surfaces every speaker, and proposes a voice for each character.

  3. Cast your voices

Swap voices, tune pacing, accent, and emotion — line by line, like directing a recording session.

  4. Generate & preview

Listen as the chapter renders. Re-record any line with a single click; no studio reset required.

  5. Export your audiobook

Download mastered MP3 or M4B with chapter markers, metadata, and an ACX-style readiness report. Each platform sets its own acceptance rules.

Questions

We get these a lot.

Book Director Studio is in beta — what does that mean for me?
The full workflow works today: import, cast, direct, render, preview, and export. As a beta author you get early access and a direct line to us, and in exchange some features may change as we polish them based on your feedback. If you have a finished manuscript and want to hear it performed, you are who we built this for.
Do I keep commercial rights to the audio?
Yes — on every plan, the audio you generate is yours to publish, sell, and license. We do not retain rights, and we will never use your manuscript to train models.
What can I import?
Paste text directly, or upload a Word document, PDF, or text file. EPUB support is on the way. The studio splits your text into chapters so you can work through the book in order.
What happens to my credits if I cancel?
Top-up credits roll over for 12 months from purchase. Subscription credits expire at the end of each billing period. We show every expiration date clearly on your billing page.
Can I edit a single line after rendering?
Yes. Each chapter is a list of chunks. Re-record any line in seconds — the silence engine re-stitches the chapter automatically without re-rendering the rest.
How long does a chapter take?
Most chapters render in a few minutes, depending on length and dialogue density. You can keep working on other chapters while one renders.
Which formats do you export?
MP3 with chapter markers for podcast platforms, M4B for audiobook stores. Both are mastered toward the loudness targets these platforms ask for, and we include an ACX-style readiness report. Final acceptance is always set by the retailer.
Do you store my manuscript?
Yes — encrypted, in your account only. You can delete a book at any time and all of its source text and generated audio are deleted within 24 hours.
